Baked Mussels

The common name mussel is used for members of several different families of clams or bivalve molluscs, from both saltwater and freshwater habitats. I have always reffered to wikipeda for my definitions. Fresh mussel meat has about the same amount of protein as beef steak, much less fat, 25% less calories and many more mineral nutrients.

Baked Mussels

ingredients:

2 lbs fresh or frozen whole shell mussels
1 head garlic (minced)
1 small ginger (grated)
2 tbsps. butter
1 small can tomato sauce
1/2 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon sugar
dash of salt
dash of pepper
grated cheese

procedure:
Boil mussels in a large pot until the shells open. Discard unopened shells. Saute garlic in a sauce pan, add ginger. Let cook for a few minutes, then pour the tomato sauce. Season. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Remove and discard top shell of each mussels and arrange on a baking dish/sheet. Apply garlic and ginger mixture to mussels and top with cheese. Bake for seven minutes.
