Tummy Rumbles

Have you ever had those embarrassing sounds your tummy makes even when you're not hungry? Did you know that these noises are called BORBORYGMI? I just found out about it while surfing the web.

The rumbling sounds occur during the digestive process. Your tummy grumbles when food is squeezed back and forth through the digestive tract until it dissolves. Foods high in fiber take longer to dissolve, hence grumbles are more frequent. As the body gets used to breaking down higher amounts of fiber, it will increase production of digestive enzymes that help speed the process.

To avoid these embarrassing sounds, add a tablespoon of olive oil to your meals. The fatty acids in the oil relax intestinal muscles enough to reduce rumbling.

Thanks for the Olive Oil tip. It makes sense. My husbands stomach used to be very grumbly, but since we've been using olive oil more in our cooking, it's been much less.

Olive oil isn't it? Hmmm I might try this one. Since the day I arrived here in Aussie and first time experiencing such cold weather especially now that is winter my tummy always have this rumbling sounds. As in when I go to sleep every night I always hear it until now but I just ignore it. I'm glad I'm able to read this info.

I've always have these problem, most probably because I'm on strict diet and most of my meals are in high fibers.

Adding olive oil is a great idea. Does it works? Let me try.

I didn't realize it was the oil that prevented me from having tummy rumbles. As a Vegan I add various cold pressed oils to my meals as I don't get enough from my food.

Not anymore. But you remind me when I was in high school, madalas akong ginugutom eh.

Thank you for this tips again mommy Liza. We are using olive oil, mas healthy daw sabi ni hubby. At first I don't like the smell but later I get used to it.

I've got Crohn's disease (Inflammatory bowel disease)and my tummy rumbles all the time - especially about an hour after meals. Sounds like I have dinosaurs in my belly! LOL

I have no idea if olive oil will work for me since some of my grumbling comes from narrow inflamed bowels, but it's worth trying!
