The Painful Hangnail

If you do happen to get a hangnail, make sure you soak your hands in water before you carefully snip with sterilized nipper or nail scissors. This will soften the skin and is less likely to tear, which can cause you pain. If skin is already torn, cover it with a bandage, however small. Our hands come in constant contact with bacteria, the bandage will protect it from irritation and infection.

Don't Crouch!
Do you squat when using public restrooms? I do that to avoid contact with toilet seats, and I'm sure many of you do it as well. I recently read that doing so can increase a woman's risk of urinary tract infection because it prevents the bladder from emptying completely. Experts suggest covering the seat with toilet paper or a seat liner. Public toilet seats are the least germy surfaces in office buildings. Telephones and elevator buttons are the most germ-ridden.

Bladder Trouble
I've read that exercises that strengthen the area can help so I've been doing pelvic tilts everyday. But I was surprised to know that wearing 1- to 2-inch heels may also help strengthen the key muscles. According to studies, the heels lead to a tilting of the pelvis that contracts those muscles. I'm not fond of wearing heels but if that would help, then maybe I should. Dietary changes are also helpful: Eat more fiber and avoid caffeine, carbonated beverages, dairy, spicy foods, and acidic fruits (like oranges and pineapple), which can irritate the bladder.
Family of Crafters
Having both parents who love the arts, my kids are crafters too. They started out with painting by numbers, beads and origami. And now, my son is eying my Galleon scale model! Hubs is now teaching him to paint small ones. Once he's ready, I'll give him the Galleon. :)

For Fast Recovery
Dark varieties like buckwheat and wildflower, particularly the unpasteurized types can slash 3 days off the length of an illness. Honey contains pinocembrin, an antimicrobial compound that kills invaders on contact, while its natural enzymes boost output of infection-fighting antibodies.
Honey is a natural remedy, so the next time you feel a cold coming on, remember to take 2 teaspoons of the sweet liquid.
