Mellow Yellow Monday #60

I really like this shot. It looks like there's a light coming from inside the flower.
Happy MYM everyone!!!

Saved By The Bell

Despite exercising and cutting back food intake, still, you don't see results. Sounds familiar? No wonder diet pills have become so popular these days, they promise effective and fast results! And when talks about diet pills come up, Phentermine 37.5 seems to top the list. They say it's perfect for women with very stubborn fat. I've been tempted (many times!) to try it but after hearing negative talks about it, I'm so glad I didn't. I should be content with the less than two pounds a month... at least I'm still shedding off the pounds.

Anne's Dilemma

My neighbor Anne, is only 38 and she already has high blood pressure. Her doctor said she should be thankful because with her weight, she could have a stroke just walking across the street. That's when she seriously thought about her weight. Her doc recommended liposuction, but for her, that wasn't an option. So I helped her research on different diet programs. She even thought of taking diet pills, another friend told her that some of the best weight loss supplements really work. I told her there's nothing really wrong about taking the pills, but with the seriousness of her weight, I told her to ask for her doctor's advise. We should know first if it's safe for her health.

Dim The Lights

Are you trying to eat (and weigh) less? Then maybe it's time for a little redecorating. I'm sure you're wondering what I'm saying but dieters usually rely on willpower alone and don't understand why their diets fail. That's because it's hard to lose weight if you're in an environment that does not support healthy eating. And when I say "a little decorating," you can start with the lighting in your dining room.

I've read that bright lights encourage you to eat faster than you otherwise would because they make you feel stressed. A dark room on the other hand will lower your inhibitions, which means you're more likely to have dessert. Experts suggest using medium-wattage bulbs, so you can see well enough but don't feel like you're in an interrogation room.

Back And Chest Breakouts

Have you noticed that pimples on the back and chest are much tougher to treat than blemishes on your face? Well, that's because the skin on these areas is thicker. You will need acne medications with stronger and higher percentages of bacteria-fighting ingredients to get rid of them. Although acne creams designed for the face do work, you have to be extra careful when applying. Most creams take several minutes to absorb, they may rub off on clothes before they can work their magic. I think it's best to use acne treatments in liquid form that absorbs into the skin faster.

Hair Loss Worries

I've got three uncles and a cousin who are worried about their thinning hairlines. Lol, men are more vain than women sometimes! Though they're trying to conceal their worries and acting like it's alright, I know they are because one of my cousins squealed that her dad and our two uncles were sorting through my articles here trying to see if I've written something about hair loss prevention tips. I'm sorry that they didn't find any. But don't worry uncles, I will research on that, promise!

I'm Getting Two!

Woohoo! I've got two new laptops! No, I didn't buy them, both are gratis courtesy of my brother and sister. After they heard that "Sam" broke down (retiring), they offered to replace it. Of course I only need one but they insisted so I'm giving the other one to my daughter. Sister told me, when she called up yesterday morning that she already sent the 2 balikbayan printed boxes and they are due to arrive within the week or early next week. I'm so excited I can't wait!

Health Tip #6

You can protect kidney stones with lemon juice. According to experts, the lemon's citric acid helps dissolve calcium oxalate, a mineral that cystallizes to form stones in the urinary tract. Try to drink 12 to 14 glasses of water spiked with lemon juice if you are dealing with kidney stones.

Protect Eyes From Work Hazards

I'm sure you know that sight is our most valuable sense. A large part of what we perceive through our senses comes from our sight. Our eyes are very delicate organs and can be damaged easily. Although our eyes have some built-in protection, it takes much more than that to protect them from hazards at work and during sports activities. Those who work in industrial facilities need to wear safety glasses suited to the job to protect eyes from flying particles from drilling, cutting, digging and other similar operations; ultraviolet radiation from welding and electrical work; fibres from insulating materials, such as fibreglass; and irritants and corrosives. You have to remember that most eye injuries can be prevented by using adequate shields and glasses so you can have many more years to use your most precious sense.

Put Off The Heat

Is your heartburn keeping you up at night? You can keep the burn at bay or put out an existing fire with this drink: A glass of water with a squeeze of lemon. According to the article I've read, the acid in the lemon tells your body you have enough, so it doesn't need to make more, and the water forces any acids in your esophagus back into your tummy. You can take it either hot or cold before hitting the sack.

Warts? Here's an at-home Remedy.

Over the counter salicylic acid treatments have a 75 percent success rate at exfoliating warts away in six weeks. But you'll be surprised that a more effective and faster treatment may actually be in your toolbox. In a recent study, a duct tape was found to be 85% effective at removing warts in just 28 days. The adhesive slightly irritates the wart and the skin around it, triggering the body to attack and remove the unsightly lump.

To do: Simply cover the wart with a bit of duct tape for six days. Then remove the tape, soak the area in warm water for 10 minutes and rub it gently with a pumice stone. Leave it uncovered overnight, then cover again in the morning to kick-off the next six day cycle.

Bargain Hunting

I'm glad that summer is almost over in this part of the globe. I know I shoudn't be complaining because most of you are aching for summer but the heat here is terrible. This year is quite different from the past summers probably because of the climate change. Anyhoo, the end of summer means the start of a new schoolyear and that's what's taking up most of my time. Hunting for sale items (like most moms!) to save up on school supplies and uniforms. I'm only halfway done though I'm not really worried because I still have a few weeks to go.

Tie Shopping

Since the men in my family (dad and hubs) never worked in a corporate office, I'm no good when it comes to shopping for mens ties. I had to ask for my cousin's help when I had to get one for my son for his confirmation. Men in my family would rather wear the traditional Barong Tagalog when attending formal functions. They say it's more comfortable than wearing a suit. Can't blame them, in this heat, a three-piece suit is not advisable.

5 Easy Ways To Keep Your Heart Healthy

1) Ward off danger with good fish fats. The heart-protective benefits of omega3 fatty acids in fatty fish -- salmon, tuna, sardines, mackerel and the like -- are so powerful, women who consumed five or more servings a week are 45 % less likely to die of heart disease than those who eat less than one serving a month.

2) Drink lots of water to avoid blood clots. Down at least five 8 oz. glasses of water daily and your chances of having a fatal heart attack will be 50 % less than if you drink less than 2 glasses a day, reveals a recent study. Water thins the blood, resulting in a decreased risk of harmful blood clots.

3) Quit smoking. Puffing even one cigarette a day triples your risk of heart disease by damaging arteries and speeding the buildup of cholesterol and plaque.

4) Strengthen your heart with romance. Making love a few times a week exercises your heart muscle (and his), resulting in increased protection and slashing your heart disease risk by 50 %.

5) Think positive. A Harvard study recently undertaken reveals that upbeat people are 50 % less likely to have heart disease than their gloomier counterpart. That's because their bodies produce far fewer artery-damaging stress hormones.

Memory: Low

I'm no tech savvy so when it comes to downloads and upgrades, I always relied on hubs or my daughter. I didn't even know that the reason sometimes when a computer or laptop slows down is because of low memory. That's what happened to my laptop. I was surprised that even the simple opening of an application took eons to load. It was my daughter who told me that I needed to upgrade my macbook memory for it to perform better. Same thing happened with our PC. I'm glad she told me because if it was just me, I'd bring it to the service center and probably spend more for the memory and service.

Prickly Heat

One of the most common summer skin spoiler is prickly heat - itchy, irritated skin that may be dotted with red bumps. It happens when sweat is not able to evaporate from your skin due to chafing or tight clothing. To avoid prickly heat, wear loose breathable clothes and change out of sweaty items as soon as possible. It may also help to dust sensitive areas like beneath your breasts and inner thighs with powder to prevent chafing. Also make sure to check the labels of skin products you're using if they are oil-free and noncomedogenic. Oil-free products won't clog pores. If you already have it, you can soothe and cool areas using an aloe gel and cortisone cream to ease itching.

Redoing The Math

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of PBM Products. All opinions are 100% mine.

It wasn't really the news about the skyrocketing price of gasoline that did it for me, but oh, it should have! What really made the peso drop was a carton of fresh milk. As I was reaching into the fridge one morning to pull it out for breakfast, my eye focused on the price sticker, Php 80.95. It used to be Php 64.00 a few months ago. And it wasn't even imported! It was then that I realized, something is really wrong with the economy. And now that I have focused on it, it scares me that we are still in a long haul of economic difficulty.

Even my relatives in the US are complaining about how hard it is to tighten the already tight budget. My cousin who gave birth to her first child three months ago has switched to PBM products. Like all moms, she told me that she wanted the best for her son. It doesn't matter if the product is expensive, as long as she thinks her baby is getting all the nutrition he needs, it's alright. But she realized later that her son can also have the best without spending much. She used to disregard Store-Brand formulas because she thought they are not nutritionally equivalent to more popular products like Enfamil. It turned out she was wrong. After reading the most recent press release of PBM, informing the public they have won against a lawsuit with Mead Johnson and that their products are indeed as nutritional, she switched. She's happy that she is now enjoying more savings.

I'm sure like me and my cousin, you have done ways not just to weather these tough times, but you've also done ways to actually thrive in them. Have you made some different practical choices in how to live day to day?
