Cheddar for PMS

Suffering from PMS?  Then eat more cheddar cheese.  I have read that you can alleviate monthly irritability with this cheese because it helps lessen production of the parathyroid hormone, which has been linked to mood swings, reducing PMS symptoms by 50 percent.

Road Trips

My brother and his family love road trips.  Every summer, they schedule (almost) weekly trips with their rv.  I haven't talked to him lately and I'm sure that's because they are out on weekends.  His kids enjoy long drives and camping out.  I just hope he was able to renew the insurance that expired last week.  I helped him look for an rv insurance quote last week.  It was a good offer, I'm not sure though if they closed the deal

Health Tip #7

Are you feeling sluggish?  Snack on carrots.  Bugs Bunny's choice does more than clear your vision, these crunchy vegetables contain vitamin C, which stimulates the production of lymphocytes, blood cells that bolster the body's immune system.

The Latest From Acer

Have you seen the latest from Acer?  The new Acer Aspire is ultra slim and is super cute!  Of course those are not the only features you look for when buying a netbook.  Performance wise, it boots up very fast according to many aspire users, that's nice because  I hate waiting up too long for my laptop to boot.   This little beauty, they say, is snappy and reacts quickly once the operating system is fully loaded.  As soon as hubs is done with the car repair, aspire one for Joey is going to be our next project.

Checking The Labels

Eating healthy means cutting down on fat (saturated fat especially), salt and added sugars.  Now that doesn't mean you won't be eating them anymore, the key really is moderation.  It's alright to have the food occasionally, but do keep an eye on how often you choose these foods and have them in smaller amounts.  Check food labels when buying them, this will tell you when the food is high in something.  Here are some of the things you should look for when checking the labels.

WHOLE GRAINS:  Make sure the label says "whole" in the ingredient list before grains like wheat.  And look for at least 3 grams of fiber per serving.

FATS:  The nutrient list should say "0 trans fat," the fat that raises the risk for heart disease.  Check the ingredient list as well for partially hydrogenated or hydrogenated fats, also forms of trans fat.  A food-nutrient list can say it has no trans fat if there's less than 0.5 grams per serving.

SUGARS:  Aside from dairy products, aim for less than 10 grams per serving, the lower the better.  The exception:  Milk has 12 grams of natural sugar, or lactose, in every 8-ounce glass.

SODIUM:  You're after no more that 480 milligrams per serving.
Confused on the "sell-by" and"use-by" dates on the labels?  Both indicate when a product will no longer have tiptop taste, which is seven to ten days from packaging for dairy products(unless they're organic) and about three days for meats.  Actual spoilage comes later.  But when in doubt, always throw it out.

Mellow Yellow Monday #66

I took this shot last week when hubs and I stopped by the pizza parlor to buy some for the kids.

Happy MYM!

Mint Oil

Got aches?  Soothe the pain with mint oil.  I've read somewhere that the oil works better than meds.  According to researchers, applying mint oil to the skin activates TRPM8, a pain killing receptor.  Next time you got the aches, apply mint oil on the area instead of swallowing a pill, natural is the best.

Clear Skin in Days!

When we are worried or anxious, the sebaceous glands in the skin go into overdrive, cranking up their production of pore-clogging oil, which can lead to those ugly bumps. Don't try to squeeze them, it will only worsen the situation. To fix: after washing your face at night, dab an acne treatment on blemishes. This gentle product kills off pimple-inducing microbes and help fight acne, making your skin clear in a matter of days.

Don't Slash Calories

One of the most frustrating realities of dieting is cutting out too many calories.  This doesn't only make you feel deprived of the foods you love to eat, but when you cut calories, our metabolism thinks times are lean and it puts the breaks on fat-burning to conserve energy.  You may opt for the top fat burners, they work to help you burn more fat fast.  Another trick to keep your metabolism revved up while dieting is to eat enough calories to at least match your resting metabolic rate (what you'd burn if you stay in bed all day).

Get Well Soon Uncle

My uncle who works for a bread company has partially damaged his lungs due to the powder he inhaled while working.  I wouldn't go into much details because we weren't told much about it.  He is also a smoker so it may have added to the disease. He was hospitalized last month and thanks to his Blue Advantage, the health insurance shouldered all the expenses.  He is now home and taking a rest and is now getting by through his disability insurance.  Good thing he had both of these insurances, at least my aunt isn't too stressed that they're now down to one income.

Don't Get Scammed!

If you think you need the help of diet pills to get rid of your stubborn fats, don't just buy something because it is popular.  Many of these pills don't really work and famous celebrities are used to endorse them to make you believe they are effective.  To find a pill that works, the key is to check the reviews. The web provides us with useful sites like diet pill reviews, to guide consumers and help us make the right choice. Don't be fooled by false advertisements and fall for trial scams.

Mellow Yellow Monday #65

Found the yellow kayaks at the resort in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.  We didn't get the chance to use them though.

Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend.  Happy MYM everyone!

Olive Oil and Butter

Stick with olive oil and butter. Unlike highly processed items such as corn oil, canola oil, vegetable shortening and margarine, these natural foods contain no trans fats or foreign genetic material. Research shows that replacing harmful fats with unprocessed forms can reduce colon cancer risk by 25 percent or more, cut levels of artery plaque in half and correct cravings and insulin resistance in as little as two weeks.

Get Great Results

Did you know that you can double your fat loss if you spend at least 10 minutes weight training each day? You can get the same great results you would get using fancy equipment at the gym by lifting your own body weight at home, doing exercises like sit-ups, push-ups, lunges and squats, experts say. You can click here to know more. Apparently, you can lose twice as much because the muscle motion increases the pituitary gland's production of human growth hormone, a compound that encourages the formation of calorie-hungry lean muscle mass and helps keep resting metabolic rate at its peak. Instead of simply dieting, try to squeeze in 10 minutes of muscle motion exercises and you'll be glad with the results.

Jiggle-free Arms

Sleeveless weather is in full swing, but if you're hesitant to part with your cardigan to hide your jiggly arms and the flab, you are not alone. If you would just set aside 10 minutes of your time everyday (along with the best weight loss supplements for greater results), you can banish bat wings and belly fat in as little as four weeks.

To eliminate jiggly arms try this move: Sit on the edge of a sturdy chair and place hands, fingers facing forward, by your thighs. Keeping knees bent, scoot forward so your butt is hovering in front of the edge of the chair. Inhale, bend your arms and lower your butt, stopping when upper arms are parallel to the floor. Exhale and push yourself up, straightening your arms. Start with two sets of 8 repetitions, working your way up to three sets of 10. Next time, the move to eliminate belly fat so watch out. :)
