Happy MYM!

Apartments West Campus for Sean and Neal

Sean is my buddy's youngest son. He'll be attending a university in Texas. Not familiar with the area and his very first time alone, his parents are helping him look for a place to settle down. They have asked the help of an agent as well as my cousin who lives in the area. Sean will be living alone but needs a big apartment as he'll be getting regular visits from relatives and friends. They have checked apartments west campus to see if the units there would meet their criteria. There are a couple of units that just might work out for Sean.

He needs to settle down quick and get used to his new environment. He also has to get acquainted with his new school. Knowing where the buildings are will reduce his time transferring classrooms. His brother Neal will be joining him there too after his tour of duty is up. By then, we won't have to worry so much as the brothers will be together to help each other out.

Did You Know?

Tomatoes are the most eaten vegetable in the US -- but only because they enjoy ketchup.  ;)

If you are a frequent visitor of this blog, you've probably heard about my weight loss dilemma.  Seven months ago, I got sick.  The doc's diagnosis was Respiratory Tract Infection.  There were rashes all over my body, I thought I was having Dengue Fever.  When the CBC platelet result came out, the doc informed me of my condition.  I was advised to stop smoking while under treatment, or else I won't get better.  Well if I had to stop smoking then I might as well quit for good.  So I did.  I got well in as little as two weeks and feels better than ever.

The only thing that I don't feel good about is my weight.  My appetite has increased as soon as I have stopped and during the first four months, I wanted to eat every food in sight.  From medium, I went to plus size clothing.  Worst,  no matter how much I workout, the weight won't budge.   :(  What's more frustrating was the fact that there are only a few womens plus size clothing shops around here. I even had to go to the Mall of Asia to find one that caters to women's plus size clothing.  The only consolation was their designs are very stylish, hubs said, I look sexy even with all the pounds I've packed during the past months.

Though I'm still in this dilemma, I'm still positive that my inactive thyroid  will wake up soon.  Then I'll lose some.  :)

Photohunt - Mostly Black

This mostly black dish is called Pork and Squid Adobo.  Mostly black because of the squid ink.  Adobo is usually cooked with soy sauce and vinegar, this one was cooked with pineapple juice and squid ink.  It's delicious and unique.  If you want to try this mostly black dish, click here for the recipe.

Breath easily with cayenne.  The fiery capsaicin in cayenne deactivates substance P, a neurotransmitter linked to inflammation.  The result: less sinus congestion and pressure.  It pairs well with root vegetables, roasted poultry, rice, chocolate, leafy greens, shrimp, eggs, popcorn, grilled-cheese sandwiches, beans, creamy soups.

Fan Shopping

Our weather here is starting to get warmer.  Yes, it is still chilly at night and in the early hours of the morning, but the sun is scorching hot from noon to three, it's already impossible to get by without a ceiling fans.  At the store, I noticed that the cold drinks are becoming more in demand and customers are always asking for the coldest bottles of soda.

In a few weeks, the hot and dry summer days will be here and while I still have time, I need to find out who makes the best ceiling fans here.  The wall fan at the store needs to be replaced and I think a ceiling fan would generate more air movement than a wall fan.  And with that, I can now give the wall space to a supplier who wants to put up a display rack on that side.

Shopping for good quality fans can be a little confusing, what with all the different sizes, shapes and colors and variety. But since I already know what I'm looking for then I don't think I will have a difficult time.

Photohunt - Silhouette

I have already used this photo for another meme but since the theme for this week is silhouette, I think this is the perfect photo in my album.  Can you see the silhouette of Jesus in the rose petal?

Save Mother Earth with GPS Tracking

Getting lost all the time?  Imagine how much driving time and gasoline you can save when you have gps tracking installed in your car.  For us, it's a lot!  My FIL still likes to drive around but at his age, and with all the new roads added, it's not as easy for him to find his destination as it was several years ago.  He attended a get-together last week and the party finished at around 8 pm, but he got home around 1 am.  MIL was so worried she thought FIL had an accident.  Turned out he got lost and since it was dark, he found it hard to find his way.  Hubs decided to have a GPS installed in his car.
Besides being environment-friendly, this little device will help FIL beat driving around in circles and will limit his stops to ask directions. Plus, the whole family will not be worrying too much whenever he goes out.

Did You Know?

Consuming at least one apple a day can cut your odds of colon cancer by 35 percent.  Why?  Apples are rich in disease-fighting polyphenols, Which may block cancer cells from flourishing.  Don't try to peel the fruit, the most polyphenols can be found in the rind.  But an apple a day is not just your natural colon cleanse, it lowers risk of a heart attack. The pectin in the fruit helps reduce cholesterol.

Old and Tired

As the tournament director of a bowling association, hubs has to print tons of reports and results weekly.  Although he has an unlimited supply of paper and ink from one of the sponsors, he has to use our ever reliable printer at home.  Lately, it's been acting up and hubs is afraid it's final days are coming.  I guess I should start looking up for cheap epson printers online.  I heard from my brother that there are a lot of cheap offers on the web. I hope I found one before hubs' printer takes its final bow.

Ugly Bumps

While some people are lucky not to suffer from acne, many of us aren't.  I've had more than a fair share of acne while I was growing up.  I am way past that stage but I still get them from time to time.  Not in the face though but body acne. Although I am glad that I don't have them in my face, it's still irritating that I still have them at my age.  Worse, body acne is much harder to treat than those in the face.  Good thing there are now meds especially made for body acne.  Back then, I had to rely on my acne face treatment which didn't help much.

Pale Faces

I overheard and his friends laughing loudly in his room, I thought they were playing online games but you know how growing boys are.  Curiosity got the better of them and they were browsing through male enhancement reviews.  They didn't even notice me when I entered the room.  Surprised and startled, they all scrambled to close the browser.  I felt that I have embarrassed them so I quickly left the room chuckling to myself because they all turned pale when they saw me.  LOL

Slimmer and Looking Great

By the way, before my sister tried the new diet pill, she did take lipozene.  Contrary to what the pill promised to deliver, it didn't make her feel less hungry and she felt more sluggish.  It is so popular that I almost bought it myself, it's good that I waited.  Sissy says, it's a total waste of money.  The one she's taking now seems to work for her.  She's 2 sizes down and is looking really great.

Hope It Works

I think I have found it.  I was just writing about my weight loss frustrations in my other blog when my sister buzzed me about her latest find.  She too has gained weight when she stopped smoking last year, but with the help of adapexin, she lost the pounds easily. If it worked for her, then it might work for me too so I'm going to try it. Hopefully, the scale needle will start going down this time.

The Purple Cabbage

Keep the big C at bay with purple cabbage.  The veggie is loaded with a group of cancer-fighting pigments called isothiocyanates.  They are so powerful, a study found that women who eat four servings a week are 63 percent less likely to get breast cancer.  And have your daughter eat it too.  The same study found that teens who ate the same amount were 72 percent less likely to develop breast cancer as adults.

Three Busy Men

If I only listened to hubs, then there won't be any need to change the two bathroom doors.  When we had the house renovated 4 years ago, I insisted on wooden doors.  I liked them because they are easier to paint but I didn't realize that the paint won't protect the wood from water.  The bottom of the doors constantly get wet from the splatters and now they are rotting.  It's a good thing you can't see the unsightly damage if you view it from the outside.  It was hubs who can't stand  the sight, lol.  I was too proud to admit I made the wrong decision that I was set on replacing both doors on my own.  Haha.

However, hubs couldn't wait.   The delivery men came this morning.  Apparently, hubs has ordered 2 UPVC Doors. Then he called to ask me if they have arrived and I said yes. He says, he'll be working on them this weekend and has enlisted the help of my son and brother in law.  I can just see how the whole house is going to be a mess with these three boys working together.  The last time they did the windows, it took me a day and a half to clean all the mess.  Well anyway, since they will be working hard this weekend, they'll be in for a treat, I'm gonna bake their favorite lasagna for dinner.

Crampy Tummy?

Then add peppermint to your dishes.  It contains menthol, a natural plant compound that relaxes pain-inducing intestinal spasms.  This reduces belly discomfort by 40 percent, according to researchers.  Mint pairs well with eggplant, tomatoes, lamb, green peas, melon, couscous, hot and cold beverages.

Stretch Your Budget

If you have to ask a mom on what's the best way to stretch the budget, many would say coupons.  Er, actually not just moms, even dads too.  My brother was bragging the other day about how much $$$ he saved on internet and cable tv when he used the Verizon FiOS Coupons he got from BeFrugal.  I never expected that, I mean, it's usually us, the mommies, who would take the extra effort to look for coupons to get discounts, right?  He even gave the link of the site to my sister where she can get AT&T Uverse Coupons so she, too, can get a discount for her home phone and internet. Beat that?
Many would not want to bother clipping coupons because it's time consuming.  But the days of waiting for the Sunday papers to get coupons are over.  There is also no need to sort through magazines and shopping ads to get PR Web Coupons, grocery coupons, restaurant coupons, books, makeup, etc.  With just a click of your mouse, you can find thousands of coupons available online for free.  These are printable coupons or you may copy the coupon codes and present them when making a purchase.  Isn't it great that internet has made it easier for us to find coupons? So remember moms, click and  coupons first before shopping.  You'll be surprised at how much you can save with all these fantastic coupons.

Wanting to spend some quality time together, my husband and I decided to go on a dinner date. We went to one of our favorite restaurants to dine. It has been a long time since we last went out on a date that hours passed without us noticing it. Not wanting to stay up too late, we decided to leave. Lo and behold! And to my husband's dismay, greeting us was a deep scratch on the door of the passenger side. With my husband's tight schedule getting that ugly scratch fixed could take years. He is so meticulous the does not want to leave his car when it is being serviced.  The last time he had a break job, he made sure he saw every thing that was done to his car. We only have a Honda, so you can just imagine if that was a Chevrolet Silverado, the truck of his dreams, it would have killed him if it had a tiny scratch, haha.

When he browses the internet, he likes visiting sites on automotive; he looks for shops where he can buy cheap parts and accessories and where he can get the best services. Although we are here in the Philippines, he likes to visit sites like the Dallas auto repair.  Then he would compare the services they offer with the services that are offered here.  He always says that theirs is a good example should he open an auto repair shop. The company does not only specialize in repairing cars and trucks which have had minor collisions and minor fender benders. Their expertly trained automotive technicians can do all the necessary repairs such as painting, dent repair and scratches on the spot.  Oh, how he wishes there is an auto shop like that around here.

A Cornered Market

One of my neighbors recently opened a laundry business.  He said, he never expected that it is a very lucrative business.  We live in a semi-commercial area and he was only targeting the single occupants of condominiums nearby.  He never expected that big accounts will land on his lap.

His business is only a couple of months old and he has two big accounts.  One is a hostel and the other one is a hospital.  Two more hospitals are considering his proposal.  He might need a bigger space if he gets the other two.  His small space is now full of white blankets and pillow cases, nursing scrubs,  tons of towels, scrubs clothing and other medical uniforms.

His coin-operated washing machines are also very busy with walk-in customers, 24/7.  A couple of months more and he'll have 100 percent ROI.  Your business is a success my friend, I wouldn't be surprise if i hear he's opened another branch.

Beat Cramps with Oregano

Enjoying two teaspoons of this herb daily during your period reduces or eliminates cramps.  That's because oregano's thymol and carvacol relax uterine muscles to prevent painful contractions.  The herb pairs well with mushrooms, tomato sauce, olives, summer squash and fish.

Dreaming About Spain

If there is one place I have always dreamed of visiting, it is Spain.  Oh, how I drooled when my family went there some years ago.  Hubs and I were left behind because the doc didn't allow me to go, I was pregnant with my daughter that time.  It was a tour all around Europe up to the mountains of Medjugorje so it was a very tiring tour.  The pictures they showed me during their stay at one of the Villas in Ibiza had me drooling all the more.  The soft, white sand and crystal clear waters were so inviting it made me dream of it more.  The beaches in Ibiza are said to be the finest in the Mediterrenean.

We have plans of going next year on our 25th wedding anniversary.  It's not going to be as grand as their European tour because I don't want to spend that much.  Ours will just be Spain.  Florence is also a possibility, if the budget fits.  :)  Hubs has started to look for possible places to stay and two came up on top of his list.  The wonderful Villas in Tenerife and the exotic villas in Cyprus.

I can't wait to see the miles and miles of pristine white beaches that stretch out to an endless blue sea, mom said, the clearest waters can be found there. And if you're familiar with Ibiza, you know that the place boasts of a glamorous nightlife, world-class entertainment, gourmet dining, spas and clubs.  The bar hopping fun is what hubs dream of.  He says, that's the best thing to do after basking in the sun all day.  Of course there are other activities like golf, scuba, and shopping. All these are just within walking distance of wherever you stay on the island.  Oh, please let the days pass quickly! :)

Arriba! Arriba!

Not another ticket!  That's what Uncle Billy said when the news reached my mom that he was caught over-speeding again.  It's not that he likes to drive really fast.  His X5 runs smoothly sometimes, he gets carried away and at times, unaware of his speed.  But not again, he says.  My sissy got him the best radar detector on the market. This will constantly remind him if he is exceeding his limit.  Hopefully, mom will never hear of speeding tickets from him again.

The Monitor is Dying

Hubs' monitor is slowly dying.  His CPU, printer and scanner are still working fine except for his monitor.  He is still using the old, bulky tv tube type monitor.  He didn't want to buy a new one then because he said it was still working.  And as long as he can use it, he says he won't buy.  But now he's seeing signs that it's going to rest soon so my daughter already started looking for  computer monitors.  I told her to order already as soon as she finds one, who knows how long the old monitor would last?

Keep Alzheimer's At Bay

Try a new recipe and prevent Alzheimer's Disease.  Numerous studies shoe dabbing in brain-boosting activities like trying a new recipe, doing a crossword puzzle or learning the lyrics to a new song cut the risk three fold.  According to experts, active brain cells demand more connections with other brain cells, and that keeps them young, healthy and disease-free.

Helping a troubled teen

We all know that the age between thirteen and nineteen, or the teenage phase is one of the hardest phases one has to go through in life.  This is the time when teenagers go through a lot of changes or what we call adolescence or puberty.   This is the time when they need their parents the most to guide them through this difficult stage.  There are those who aren't so lucky though, and would rather go through this period alone.  And because they are alone, it's easy to get confused on what should and what shouldn't be.

How do you know if your child is a troubled teen?  For a teener, friends mean the world. They like doing everything with friends and would share their deepest secrets with them.  So if you notice that your teenager likes to be alone all or most of the time, check out why.

If you notice your child is hanging out with a whole new group of friends and he's not giving you a clue as to who they might be or where he has met them, then you may be concerned. This change of friends may also lead to a change in behavior as well.

Observe his grades.  If his grades are plummeting and he seems to be not interested in attending school, then things going amiss. Getting involved into fights at school or disputes with teachers is another obvious sign.

Parents who are struggling with this problem may want to send their kids to reputable boarding schools for troubled boys.  Experts advice, it is best to remove the child from the negative influences, put him in one of the best boarding schools until he is steady enough to stand up for himself. The school's goal is to make him feel comfortable with his feelings, choices and who he is so he doesn't need acceptance from others By the time he is finished with the course and is ready to leave the residential treatment centers, he is more confident and emotionally healthy.

She'll be at Riverside Apartments Austin

One of my favorite cousins got accepted at the University in Texas.  My Uncle and my aunt are both so excited for her that they immediately started looking for apartments the minute they received the acceptance letter.  They found Riverside Apartments Austin on the internet and they think it's a good place for my cousin to reside.  It's nice to see how supportive they are of her as she takes the necessary steps toward her goals.  My cousin is an over-achiever and she worked hard to get to where she is today.  She is very passionate and driven that's why we are all so proud of her.  She definitely deserves all the blessings that are coming her way.

A Good Injury Lawyer

So many cases have been filed over the years by either the victims or the family of the victims who have been involved in road accidents.  These are mostly from truck accidents.  If you happen to live in Texas and have a pending case against the truck driver and the truck company, enlisting the services of an Austin truck accident attorney may help speed up your case.  Why?  Because an Austin injury lawyer works hard to win a case for you. These competitive attorneys have good track records for past handling of injury claims cases.

A good lawyer has a good record of settling most of his cases out of court.  That's going to be your clue actually. If the Austin personal injury lawyer is known around the courthouse with a great win record, other lawyers will think it's wiser not to want to face them in court, thus a settlement is reached out of court.

You can also rest assured that your Austin personal injury  lawyer would be totally honest with you once he has checked out your case.  He'll tell you immediately what your chances are and what he believes the outcome will be or at least some hint on what he thinks the outcome of the case will be.

Missing The Old House

I miss our old house! The house where I grew up. The house where my mom planted a lot of fruit trees -- the dwarf mango tree, avocado tree, guava tree and jackfruit tree. Mom has a green thumb and whatever plant she touches grows. Most of the trees we had bore fruits during the summer. Our kitchen will be filled with different fruits during those times and when her harvest is plenty, many will be given to friends and family.

She also had several palm trees and a tall coconut tree. Coconut salad was never a problem because she only had to ask our houseboy to harvest some coconut. We never had to buy coconut juice! But the tree didn't last long. When a new neighbor moved beside us, we had to cut the tree down. The heavy coconut keeps falling on their roof, they had to change it three times. They were probably hesitant to approach us and tell us about their roof.

Mom loved to plant herbs too and she had a lot in pots that she'd give out to her friends as gifts on Christmas. She never tried planting bamboo plants though. I don't know why, but if she did, I'm sure it's going to grow too and last a really long time.

Health Tip #17

Laugh out loud!  Repeated bouts of hearty laughter have some of the same health benefits as working out -- like helping to keep your blood pressure and cholesterol in check.  Consider that gut-busting comedy a preventive medicine.

Get The Traffic and Exposure You Need

Whether at home, at the office, in school and everywhere else, communication is an essential part of our everyday life. However, simple words can either get your message across or make your life complicated. And just like with our business, words can either make or break our company.  How we deliver our messages to our customers plays a vital role in our business.  This is where the importance of a search engine optimization company comes in. They are the ones who will help sell your service or product. No one can get proper business without it.

How does it help your business?  Your keyword matters and it should not be taken too lightly. Important keywords will make your products easily searchable.  And what SEO does is to put your keywords on the top pages of every search engine available, plus, it helps increase website traffic. When someone searches for something in the net, types your keyword, your site will be on the top list of his search.  And a first glance of your word, customers will already get a picture of what you are offering.  First impressions last, and only organic search engine optimization can give your product or service the boost it needs.

Have A Salad Instead

For minor aches and pains, chill out with baby greens instead of popping in a pill in your mouth right away.  The leafy greens are an excellent source of lactuarium, a compound that acts as a mild sedative.

Find Everything You Need with Furniture Retail Software

There was nothing much to do last night and I was able to finish my dues early so before heading to bed I had some time to surf the web. I stumbled upon a furniture website that had me drooling over their beautiful modern furniture. My old sofa is already soggy and soon, I will need to look for a replacement. I'm not one who stays in a website for a long time except when I see something I really like.  I like that the site's furniture retail software allowed me to navigate their pages with ease.  I found a cute off white sofa that will match the color of our living room.  It is made in Italy and made with solid pine wood frame and wedge feet. It's going to look good in our living room. Give me some time baby, and you're going to be mine.

Summer Excitement

With only a few weeks before summer vacation, my son and his cousins are already thinking of how they are going to spend it.   There weren't much fun last year because Joey had to spend a few weeks taking up math remedial lessons, but this time, he's so sure he's not going to spend summer in school.  :)  Well good for you sweetie, you may want to pursue taking up football classes with the other boys.  :)
A few years ago, he wanted to learn the sport but because our budget was  tight that year, and the uniforms and equipment sold here were pretty pricey, I asked him to wait.  This summer, I'm making sure he learns football.  I've also seen affordable jerseys, football shoes and nice equipment at mitre footballs.  There are also fun sets that come with team logo helmet with foam padding and face mask with adjustable chin strap, 100% double knit polyester team jersey and 100% double knit polyester pants with elastic waistband and cuffs. These kids will definitely love those cute football uniforms.
Once they see these gears, I'm sure they can't wait to start, so I'm gonna have to keep it a secret first.  They need to focus on the finals first!
