Steps Towards Sobriety, like Going to Alcohol Rehab

Getting sober from alcohol is a process. It is one that takes a while to get to the end result. But this doesn’t mean that it isn’t worth it. Many people don’t want to put forth the effort to beat an addiction, but doing so will bring health and happiness. It will be worth it. There are some steps that need to be taken in order to complete the journey towards sobriety, including going to an alcohol rehab facility.

Admitting the Problem

The first thing you need to do is to admit there is a problem. It is easy for people to justify their addictions, especially alcohol. Drinking alcohol is legal, meaning that you don’t have to hide the fact that you do so. It also means that almost everywhere you go, you will be faced with the opportunity to drink. This makes it easy to justify that everyone else is drinking and that you don’t actually have a problem. But if your life is affected by your drinking or you cause harm to yourself or others while drunk, you have a problem.

Get Support

Once you have accepted the fact that you have a problem, you need to get a support system. This should consist of people you trust and that care about you. You want them to be there for you throughout this process. You need them to hold you accountable and help you up when you stumble through this process.

Detox

Once you have the support you need, you will have to detox off the alcohol. An addict will have a very hard time going without alcohol. They will have withdrawals both mentally and physically. It is important to go through this process with professionals. If you try to do this at home, you may be tempted to drink again.

Rehab

Lastly, it is time to enter an alcohol rehab facility. You need to work through your addiction with professionals. Through therapy, they can also help you figure out why you started drinking excessively, how to break your unhealthy cycle, and what triggers or negative behaviors to watch out for once you leave treatment. Treatment is vital to your success. They will help you through this hard journey so you can come out a healthier and happier person.

Review: Ozeri CardioTech BP5K Blood Pressure Monitor

I was one of the lucky bloggers to be given a chance to review the Ozeri CardioTech Pro Series BP5K Digital Blood Pressure Monitor with Voice-Guided Operation & Intelligent Hypertension Indicator. It was right on time because due to perimenopause, I'm starting to have spikes in my blood pressure. We also have a BP monitor here at home that my mom uses, but it's old and I'm not sure if it's still that accurate.

I was very exited when I was informed that my unit was shipped via UPS. I didn't have to wait long; in two days time, it was here!

Product Description:

The Ozeri CardioTech BP5K Blood Pressure Monitor is compact, portable and simple-to-use. It is also an advanced wrist cuff monitor with a new intelligent voice-guided feature that alerts you to the proper positioning of your wrist for accurate blood pressure measurements. The audible voice also automatically tells you the results after each measurement. It has an ample memory that can store up to 180 blood pressure readings with date and time memory recall. Another great feature of this product is that it can also detect irregular heartbeat (Arrhythmia) for an improved understanding of your heart's health. It comes with a 5 year warranty, 2 AAA batteries, a carrying case and a user manual.

  • New intelligent voice-guided feature alerts you to the proper positioning of your wrist for accurate blood pressure measurements.
  • Automatically provides an audible hypertension assessment via a new talking function (as well as a display on the LCD screen).
  • Portable, accurate, and simple-to-use with clinically proven technology, stores 180 blood pressure readings (90 x 2 users) with date and time recordings.
  • Automatic Irregular heartbeat (Arrhythmia) detection and Hypertension Indicator.
  • Push-button access to average blood pressure readings based on all readings in memory, AM versus PM readings, or the 3 most recent readings.

My Opinion?

It's so easy to use and you don't even need assistance from anyone to get your blood pressure. The audible voice guides you through the steps. It tells you when you have positioned it wrong and how you can correct it so you'd get the most accurate reading possible.

Note: These are the photos I took when I tested it on my brother.

The first time that I used it, the audible voice had to tell me several times to adjust the angle of my arm. That is a good thing because it means that the people behind Ozeri did their job well at producing the most accurate BP monitor ever to hit the market. Yeah, I've used mom's old BP monitor. It's digital too, but you'll never know if you are doing it right or if your arm and wrist are positioned at the right angle.

As soon as I'm done, the result was displayed on the screen. The screen is bright and the numbers are pretty big. I was able to see it clearly even without my readers. Oh, and the audible voice didn't stop talking; it told me if the number was high or low. That's another great feature that I like because not all people know much about blood pressure monitoring.

I've had a really nice experience with this product and every one at home was excited to try it. If you need to monitor your blood pressure, you can do it at home with the Ozeri CardioTech Pro Series BP5K Digital Blood Pressure Monitor with Voice-Guided Operation & Intelligent Hypertension Indicator. It's easy to use and accurate. The voice is loud enough, clear and easy to understand. It's so nice that the people behind this product worked so hard in producing a high quality blood pressure monitor.

Seek Professional Help

If you are sick or in pain, do not avoid seeing a doctor. Although you may think that you will feel better with rest or a simple massage, only a medical professional can say for sure whether you are in good health. In some cases, pain can be a warning sign that cancer has started to invade your body.

When you visit your doctor, he or she will be able to diagnose your symptoms and give you medication to help you get better. As long as you take the medication as prescribed, you should start to notice those symptoms ease within days. If your symptoms do not get better, schedule another appointment with your doctor.

Scheduling an appointment to see your doctor could be as easy as a single click of your mouse. It may be possible to schedule an appointment online at your earliest convenience. This option is useful for those who work odd hours or don't like to talk to people on the phone.

Whether your knee won't stop hurting or your can't stop coughing at night, make sure that you see your doctor as soon as possible. He or she will help you overcome your symptoms and keep a minor problem from becoming a life threatening issue.

Fish and Seafood for a Healthy Diet

Omega-3 fats are in the news constantly as major contributors to a healthy lifestyle. Eating fish and seafood are key sources of omega-3 fats and other nutrients that studies have shown to be part of a healthy diet. Vitamin D and selenium are two of the nutrients that studies show may help reduce the risk of heart and related diseases. Fish and seafood that are high in protein but low in saturated fat can be easily delivered right to your door. You can shop today from such web markets as myfishdelivery.com and have your order delivered within 24 hours!

Health benefits of fish and seafood aren’t limited to heart disease. Long considered a “brain” food, it can help reduce memory loss and some studies indicate it can prevent some forms of cancer and alleviate osteoporosis.

Fish and seafood can be prepared to create a multitude of dishes. Chowders, stews, baked and broiled are only some of the delicious ways you can add variety to your dinner menus.

The online products you can select range from whole fish to fillets. Salmon, tuna and mackerel are some of the fish choices with plenty of the monounsaturated, or omega-3 fats. Seafood, such as shrimp, lobster, oysters, scallops and crab are succulent, irresistible healthy alternates. Some online seafood and fish markets even offer sushi and caviar!

Did you know?

Pistachios can help drop old risk by up to 30 percent. Stress increases the likelihood of catching a winter bug by hindering the body's production of antibodies. But a handful of these yummy nuts makes a delicious defense.

I Love Bags

My aunt always shops for wholesale handbags in the US whenever we have a relative who's going home for a vacation. Mid next month, my sister is coming home for a three week vacation and for sure, she'll be bringing home a lot of signature handbags for mom, me, aunts and cousins. That's why I never buy my own bags unless there is something that I really like. I have a regular supply of signature bags courtesy of my aunt and I'm not complaining. I love bags and she's got good taste.

Review: ThinReaders

Has it ever happened to you that you can't find your reading glasses just when you need it most? Happens to me a lot of times that's why I had to get several pair of readers. I have one in my purse, one in the car, one in the kitchen, one in my work place and one in the bedroom. You can just imagine how costly it can get to have several pairs.

Then I was sent a pair of ThinReaders so I can share my thoughts with you all.

These little glasses are so cool and they come with a case that's even cooler -- a case that fits on my smartphone!

Most of  us are never far from our phones. Oh, we would forget about a lot of things but NEVER our phones. Admit it, you are nodding right now as you read this.

These little readers fit right on the back of the phone so they are always there when I need them. It's good that I don't have to carry around my regular glasses, place them somewhere and forget about them. When I need to read something, I only need to slip the glasses out of the case and onto my nose and use them in a second. Easy, handy and really really cool!

These eyeglasses are designed so they work for most people who need readers. For $38, I'd say it's worth it; you get a smartphone case and a pair of readers! You'll save more than you would with several pairs. You also don't have to worry about the fit because ThinReaders are designed to sit lightly on your nose without pinching. The designers went through over 200 test versions before they got the design just right. They are light and comfortable to wear and fit any face. The lenses are made of poly-carbonate just like other high-end prescription glasses, so these are really durable.

Android and  iPhone owners can get their ThinReaders from the inventors at ThinOptics.com.

Increase Energy with Turquoise

You've had a full night's rest but you still woke up feeling exhausted. The trick? Don a necklace or ring featuring a turquoise. According to experts, the electromagnetic frequency of the blue-green stone matches the energy waves given off by the body's solar plexus chakra, the area responsible for metabolism and self-esteem. Wearing it releases blockage in this area, energizing your muscles.

Into Music

Still haven't decided yet on what guitar my son is going to buy and here is my husband already talking about accessories. He's even looked online for a mackie pa package. He's very excited that finally our son is into music; not expecting that he'd make a career out of it but he's getting busy with something else instead of just spending all his free time in front of the computer.

Tired and Achy? Rx: Polyphenols

Feeling exhausted and achy? During the holidays we are exposed to thousand of toxins due to our increased intake of alcohol, sugar, stale indoor air, and sometimes, pain meds. These toxins can make the liver sluggish and less able to break down fat. Add to that, as tissues store of toxins rise; aches, brain fog and fatigue result.

To fight aches and fatigue, add polyphenols to your diet. Dark chocolate with 70 percent cocoa, purple grape juice, black and green tea, apples, red grapes, berries and onions are the best sources of polyphenols.

Seeing Them Soon

Can't wait for the second week of February. The whole family is excited because both my brother and sister will be home for a short vacation. It's been six years since my sister came home and it's been 3 years for my brother.

The photo was taken when my brother was here. We had dinner with his MIL in one of the restaurants where diners are serenaded by musicians playing lakland bass guitars at guitar center. We are all so excited that for the first time, they are coming home together.

Pain-Free Period

I just read that noshing on pistachios daily for 3 days prior to your period can relieve the discomfort of cramps 33 percent more effectively than over-the-counter meds. The yummy nuts have rich stores of magnesium, a mineral that relaxes nerve-cell activity in the uterine muscles, diminishing the pain of sudden spasms.

Confused

As of this moment, my son is still confused whether to buy ibanez bass guitars or just purchase an acoustic guitar. And like I always tell him when he can't decide, WAIT. That is always the best thing (aside of course, from asking advice) when you can't decide on something. Doing so gives you more time to think and weigh things on what will work best for you. Do you also wait when you have to make a decision or do you just go and get what comes to mind first?

Guide on How to Find the Perfect Prom Dress

Senior prom is just a few weeks away and if you still haven't shopped for a dress to wear on that special day, there is no reason for you to panic. There are a lot of websites that offer pretty and affordable party dresses. One such shop is DressFirst. They offer up to 60 percent off plus free shipping. But don't get too excited yet. Before you head on over there to check their gorgeous prom outfits here are some tips you should read first to help you find the perfect dress.

When shopping for a dress, pick dresses a size larger than your normal size. Just like wedding gowns, prom dresses are usually made at least one size smaller. Once you have your dress with you, try it on right away so you'll know if there is a need for some alterations.

When you browse through the catalogs, try to keep an open mind. Going for the traditional dress is always safe but you could also try on lots of different styles and designs. Believe me, you'll be surprised to find something you'll love and never thought you'd wear.

It also helps to listen to the opinions of your mom and your friends; they'd be the best persons to tell you what colors and styles suit you best. You may find a dress you like so much but that doesn't mean it's the best dress for you.

Always ask for assistance. If you are in a shop, let the salesperson help you try on the dresses. They will help you zip and lace up and tell you how some styles should be worn. If you're shopping online, ask help from the customer support. They'd be happy to assist you pick the right size. You might also want to listen to the salesperson’s ideas. Being the prom dress experts, they don't only know which body type the dresses they sell look good on, but they also know which styles are hot and which styles have a beautiful fit.

After you have chosen a design or you bought the dress already, let your friends know so they'll be able choose another style. Prom dresses are usually made in several pieces so there’s no guarantee you’ll be the only one wearing that dress at the prom.

As much as possible, try to buy your shoes and accessories at the time you buy your dress. It's easier to complete the look when you have the dress with you.

Lastly, consider your budget. An expensive dress doesn't mean it is the prettiest and the best. You can find a more affordable dress and still look elegant and beautiful.

Getting Better

For those of you who are following this blog, you probably know that I'm battling plantar fasciitis. And for those of you who do not know what it is, it's a condition where the plantar fascia, the flat band of tissue that connects the heel bone to the toes and supports the arch of the foot gets swollen and inflamed. I feel pain on the bottom of my feet when I walk a lot or stand up for a long time. There is also a sharp pain when I suddenly stand up after sitting or lying down. The pain would only last for a few seconds though and I can walk normally again after that.

Plantar fasciitis is usually caused by excessive pronation (when your feet roll inward too much when you walk); when you are overweight; when you have high arches or flat feet; when you walk, stand, or run for long periods of time, especially on hard surfaces; when you wear shoes that don't fit well or are worn out or do not have support; and when you have tight Achilles tendons or calf muscles.

Sadly, there is no cure for this condition but it can be treated through stretching and exercise. It's a long process though but after years of doing the stretching exercises, my feet feel a lot better. The thing is I can't stop or else it will get worse. I also have to be careful with the shoes I wear. I cannot just wear any flats. I have to make sure the arches are fully supported that's why I love to shop at Zalora. They have the most comfortable shoes I found online. Walking barefoot is also a No-No. I am also working on losing weight; I'm struggling, but my feet will not be the only ones that will benefit from it so I'm pretty determined to shed some (hopefully more) pounds. Slowly but surely, I know I will. :)
