7 Ways to Increase Your Chances of Getting Pregnant

If you’re like many women, you’ve possibly had trouble getting pregnant. Child conception isn’t always an easy process, but there are some methods that you can try to better your odds. Here are a few ways that you can possibly increase your chances of getting pregnant.

Look for Mucus Discharge

A few days before you ovulate, you may start to notice gooey and sticky mucus in your vaginal region. This is often a good time to try to get pregnant, because the mucus creates better conditions for sperm to start swimming toward the egg. Sperm can stay alive up to 72 hours following intercourse, and the mucus that’s secreted just before the egg is released from the ovary provides a great window of opportunity.

Eat the Right Foods

Eating certain foods may improve your odds of becoming pregnant. You should look for foods that are high in vitamin C, protein and zinc, as these vitamins and nutrients are known to shorten menstrual cycles and can help you ovulate more frequently. Getting more complex carbohydrates in your diet can keep your body’s insulin levels under control and make it easier for you to conceive. Walnuts, flaxseed and other foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids can further help you in your quest for a child.

Encourage Your Partner to Avoid Certain Foods

In addition to eating the right foods yourself, you should encourage your partner to stop eating certain foods that are known to lower sperm count while you’re trying to conceive. Soy products are among the worst types of foods for sperm production. Bacon, sausage and other processed meats can further lower your man’s sperm count. It’s also wise to advise your partner to stop drinking alcohol due to the fact that it’s known to decrease testosterone levels and interfere with sperm production.

Do the Right Exercises

Exercising regularly is important if you want to get pregnant, and there are certain exercises that can be particularly advantageous. Moderate jogging, aerobics and other cardio exercises are great for stimulating blood flow throughout the body and creating ideal conditions to carry a newly developing child. Strength training with weights can also enhance fertility by reducing insulin resistance and providing better support for your reproductive organs. Just be careful to not do too much exercise, because putting your body through excess strain may cause your stress hormones to increase and make it more difficult to conceive.

Maintain a Consistent Sleep Schedule

Regular changes in your sleep pattern can negatively affect your reproductive hormones. Changing the times that you sleep might also make it more difficult for you to find the time to try to conceive. If possible, try to avoid sleeping during the day and working rotating shifts so that you can maintain a consistent sleep schedule at night. If you’re forced to work nights, it’s still important that you sleep at regular times.

Try Acupuncture

Some women have experienced great results when they've visited acupuncturists to try to increase their fertility. During an acupuncture session, a practitioner will use small needles to try to enhance your energy flow and stimulate certain parts of your body. Acupuncture often works in balancing thyroid hormonal levels, which play important roles in getting pregnant. Blood flow within the uterus can be increased with acupuncture to produce a thick lining to support a developing baby.

Consider Medical Fertility Treatments

Visiting a fertility clinic for treatments may be your best option if other methods have failed. A lot of these clinics offer in vitro fertilization (IFV) therapy, which involves harvesting egg and sperm cells and combining them in a laboratory to produce an embryo. The embryo is then transferred into the mother’s uterus to grow. Other treatment options include ovulation induction, ovarian stimulation and intrauterine insemination (IUI). There are even treatments that can be tried on men to facilitate child conception.

You’ll have an easier time creating your new bundle of joy if you take the right steps to increase your fertility. Doing so will help you move past challenges that might be standing in the way to becoming pregnant.
