The Nails

Did you know that your fingernails can tell your state of health? Here are some of the signs you should look for.

YELLOW nails indicate that you could possibly have a fungal infection or liver problem. BLUISH nails may be a sign of anaemia or lung trouble [like asthma]. Nails that are BRITTLE and DRY may signal that you lack calcium in your body. Abnormally THICK nails could possibly mean improper blood circulation. THIN nails could possibly mean you lack vitamin B12 in your body. Unusually SQUARE and WIDE nails may suggest that you have a hormonal disorder. Nails which seem easily to CHIP, PEEL and CRACK might be a sign of an inadequate diet.

Nails reflect what you eat. If you are living on fatty foods like burgers and fries, don't expect your nails to be strong and healthy. Remember that no nail care product alone can give you healthy nails. Here are some ways I found to keep them looking their best.
  • Don't abuse your nails. Never use them to poke or pry on things. Buy a toothpick!
  • No nail biting please! This habit can damage the nail bed.
  • Wear rubber gloves to protect your nails when gardening or when using soap and water for prolonged periods and when using chemicals.
  • Trim fingernails and clean under the nails regularly.
  • Nails need moisturizers too. Rub lotion into your nails when moisturizing your hands.
