MSG in Disguise

Recent research shows that a diet high in MSG can triple the odds of being overweight. That's because the glutamate in MSG overstimulates nerve cells to damage or even destroy them, triggering cravings and weight gain plus other symptoms such as headaches, stress, fatigue and brain fog.

As much as we want to avoid it, MSG is often disguised on products labels. When buying products, here are some of the terms that may signal the presence of MSG: monopotassium glutamate, yeast extract, hydrolyzed protein, calcium caseinate, sodium caseinate, yeast nutrient, autolyzed yeast, gelatin, textured protein, hydrolyzed corn gluten, natrium glutamate and vague words such as "flavorings" or "spices."

While it's tough to totally avoid this flavor-enhancing food additive, you can counteract its effect with foods rich in antioxidants such as vitamin C and E and beta carotene. Enjoying four servings daily of fruit like papayas or veggies like broccoli, carrots and peppers can neutralize oxidation and spur cell repair, recharging the brain's leptin response in days.

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately whenever I consume MSG I pass out. Literally I pass out in the middle of a restaurant, living room or restroom. My system can not and will not tolerate it.

I beginning to suspect all labels of telling lies. I don't understand how large companies get away with being so deceptive.

I never knew hydrolyzed wheat protein was a food enhancer chemical until probably around 2 weeks ago, I was reading an online news report on how fish sauce is made and how some companies use hydrolyzed protein to speed up the fermentation process. We all need read labels and eat wholesome and organic foods. Very good info you have here. :)

Hi

Dropping by to ask for your prayers and support for the Flood Victims of Typhoon Ondoy that just hit the Philippines, Metro Manila. I was very fortunate that my apartment has been spared from the major flooding but many have died and many more need to be rescued. Drop by over at empty streets to find out how you can also support those that have been hit by this tragedy.

sincerely,

Metz

Oh my, I didn't know that those terms also mean MSG. And to think I try so hard to avoid that harmful stuff... thanks for sharing the info. And I agree, eating healthy is the best way to counter the effects of MSG.
