My Stress Buster

My way of short-circuiting stress is through stitching. When I pick up those needles, I know I am not just creating something with every stitch but I'm also lowering stress. I can sit down for hours doing a project without noticing the time.

If you haven't tried stitching, I suggest you try it. I have also read that stitching/knitting triggers the body's relaxation response as effectively as tai chi, resulting in lowered heart and breathing rates.

That's great Liza, that you can find the time to do stitching, I miss that. I brought all my cross-stitching paraphernalia here but they're just collecting dust at the moment, LOL. Btw, that's a great creation you have here.

I knitted my way through medical school. It kept me sitting down, focused, and kept my hands busy so I didn't snack (a lot of my friends gained TONS of weight during exam weeks).

I rarely have that kind of time anymore, but I still keep my needles in the living room. Someday, I'll pick them back up...

I cross stitched lots of pictures and framed them when I was single, now I can see well due to poor eyesight. :(

I agree, it's very relaxing. I try to do needlepoint for a half hour or an hour every evening (more on the weekends) and it does help.

I did actually tried Liz.. It was a school project and the result was not so good.. Maybe it was the age that made the difference. I was 14. ^^ I still feel bored when I think about it.

That doesn't work for me at all! Nothing makes me more tense than sewing, stitching, anything along those lines. I just tense right up.

I used to cross stitch, but I can't do it anymore, it hurts my eye. I agree it is a stress buster. Mine is crochet. I do mercerized #10 thread and yarns, mostly afghans.

I am always looking for more ways to relieve stress. But I've never tried stitching. I'm not really a very crafty person. It looks like you are. That is a beautiful picture.

Hi Liza,

It's good that you are doing stitching. Well I guess anything that we enjoy to do can help to relieve our stress.

By the way thanks for your comforting words... Have a blessed day!
